Beadbi of Guru Granth Sahib Ji’s Saroop by Landlord Causes a mini-Riot in Delhi Neighborhood

Posted in Late Breaking News by Panthic Weekly Editors on the April 30th, 2008

New Delhi (KP) — A New Delhi Sikh was attacked by neighbors and the Saroop of Guru Granth Sahib in his house was thrown out in the street after the landlord evicted the Sikh’s family from their second floor apartment in the State Bank Colony near Gurdwara Nanak Pio Sahib.

The Sikh’s apartment had already been emptied due to the eviction but Guru Maharaj’s Saroop had not been moved due to a family emergency. But before this Sikh tenant could bring five Singhs to retrieve the Saroop, the Landlord, Ravi Singal removed the Saroop from the premises and tossed Guru Sahib in the street. The builder, along with nearby neighbors, also physically attacked the Sikh, leaving him battered and bruised.

As the local Sangat found out about this attack, hundreds of Sikhs gathered around the complex, and respectively removed the Sacred Saroop of Guru Sahib.  Along with members of the Delhi Sikh Gurdawara Management Committee, they attempted to pressure the local Police to register a FIR complaint against the landlord and local neighbors. The Police declined to take such action against both.

After the Police inaction, hundreds of Sikh youth took it upon themselves to punish the perpetrators and ransacked the builder’s property during the late evening.

Further details will be published as they arrive…

Interview with Yukta and Spokesman’s indecisive agenda

Posted in Opinions & Editorials by Panthic Weekly Editors on the April 30th, 2008

Panthic Weekly Staff was able to complete an exclusive over-the-phone interview with Hari Ratan Yukta of Rozana Spokesman.  Several interesting aspects came out of the interview that continued for over 30 minutes.  Our team in Punjab is in process of finalizing the editorial which should be published for the Sangat in the upcoming days.  Please stay tuned.

Ever since receiving wrath of Sikh Sangat after publishing Yukta’s article, Rozana Spokesman has been publishing follow ups that actually ridicule its initial remarks against Guru Granth Sahib Ji.  This type of U-turn by Rozana Spokesman is not new.  Recently, an article on Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh Ji was published in which Bhai Sahib provides answer to a similar question posed by a British Officer.  This conversation is detailed in the booklet titled “ਕੀ ਸà©à¨°à©€ ਗà©à¨°à©‚ ਗà©à¨°à©°à¨¥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਬà©à©±à¨¤-ਪà©à¨°à¨¸à¨¤à©€ ਹੈ ?”

It needs to be noted that Bhai Randhir Singh Ji explained this issue to a British Officer who was unaware of Sikhi principals. Yukta, on the other hand claims to be a Sikh ’scholar’, and he is not simply posing an harmless question, but answering it with venom in devious manner .

Meeting Called at Sri Akal Takht Sahib on Spokesman

Posted in Late Breaking News by Panthic Weekly Editors on the April 28th, 2008

Amritsar Sahib (KP) – To prevent further attacks on the status of Panthic traditions, prominent Sikh Jathebanis have called for a meeting at Akal Takhat Sahib tomorrow, April 29, 2008 at 10:00 AM. Sikh Organizations, including the Shiromani Akali Dal (A), Akhand Kirtani Jatha and Damdami Taksal will be discussing crucial issues relating to misrepresentation of Gurmat through hands of Rozana Spokesman.

The decision to discuss this matter at detail came after the recent blasphemous acts of the Mohali based newspaper. After trying to belittle the status of Akal Takhat Sahib, Sikh Rehit Maryada, Saints and Bhagats mentioned in Guru Granth Sahib, Joginder Sawney allowed publication of an article in his newspaper that referred to the centuries old tradition of making obeisance to Guru Granth Sahib Ji as a brahmanic practice. Panthic organizations have announced that the meeting will be held to decide the matter of Rozana Spokesman irretrievably, without deciding any further course of action.

13 Martyrs of Vaisakhi 1978 Remembered

Posted in General News by Panthic Weekly Editors on the April 28th, 2008
Sacramento, California (KP) – Thirtieth Martyrdom Anniversary of Bhai Fauja Singh Ji and twelve other Singhs was remembered by Sikh Sangat situated worldwide.  Following the large scale commemoration programs in Punjab, United Kingdom and Canada, Sikh Sangat of California also organized an all-night kirtan program in memory of the 1978 Shaheeds.  Sikh Youth from all across California along with many prominent kirtanis participated in the seva.

Along with the glorious kirtan, a prominent attraction at the event was the display of Bhai Fauja Singh Ji’s Sri Sahib (sword) and dhaal (shield).  The shastars were placed in hazoori of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji in the main diwan hall.  With grace of Guru Granth Sahib Ji atmosphere of the whole program was extremely amazing and full of bir-russ, most likely due to the kirtan of Dasam Patshah’s bani and the display of shastars of the great Shaheed.

Along with several small scale programs in California, the all-night kirtan event was the third major program of the month to honor the martyrdom of the thirteen Singhs.  The martyrdom of Singhs was recently also commemorated at the Stockton Nagar Kirtan and Fremont Gurdwara Sahib last week where exclusive pictures of Bhai Fauja Singh Ji and other 1978 Shaheeds were put on display.
