Sikh Organizations Urge Sri Akal Takht Sahib Management to Act Over Continued Mishandling of Saroops that were Shipped via Cargo Ship
Surrey, British Columbia (KP) – Three provincial Sikh Gurdwara councils have jointly appealed to Sri Akal Takht Sahib for immediate intervention over the continued mishandling, transportation, and care of 225 saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji brought to Canada earlier this year. The appeal follows an incident in which the management of Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha was caught on video transferring saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji without observing the required respect and maryada for their transportation.
The British Columbia Gurdwara Council, Ontario Gurdwara Committee, and Quebec Sikh Council submitted a joint letter to Jathedar Kuldeep Singh Gargaj of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, calling for a transparent investigation and the release of complete information regarding the whereabouts and handling of the saroops.
The appeal follows a series of developments that have generated significant concern among members of the Sikh community in Canada.
September 20 Incident Raises Questions
The organizations’ latest appeal was prompted in part by a video that emerged on September 20 showing an attempt by Singh Sabha Gurdwara sevadars to transport saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji in the rear of a work van without any proper bedding, palki or chandoa. The saroops were being placed on a low mattress while shoes, food and drink items, rubbish, and other materials were also present in the vehicle.
The organizations state that they were informed that the saroops were being transported to other locations in Canada and the United States, including Toronto even though the issue of beadbi is still pending at Sri Akal Takht Sahib for all these saroops.
The circumstances shown in the video posted on various social media sites raise serious questions about whether proper maryada and standards for the transportation and care of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji are being followed by Singh Sabha Gurdwara and those who are taking these to their personal premises.
Surrey Sangat Holds Gathering
On September 21, a large gathering of the sangat was held outside Singh Sabha Surrey Gurdwara in response to the concerns. The Sikh organizations said they fully support the concerns and demands raised by the local sangat during the gathering.
Among the demands is a full and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the 225 saroops, including:
- Where each saroop was being sent;
- How many saroops are currently housed at Gurdwara Sahibs;
- Where the remaining saroops are located or are intended to be sent; and
- Who has responsibility for the hundreds of saroops in their possession.
Concerns Over 225 Saroops Brought on Cargo Ship
On behalf of Singh Sabha Gurdwara, Surrey 225 saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji were brought to Canada via a commercial cargo container ship. No sevadars from either Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) or Singh Sabha Gurdwara were present during the lengthy ocean transit from India to Canada. The circumstances surrounding the shipment prompted criticism from Sikh communities in Canada, USA, Punjab and elsewhere.
The organizations stated that they had previously issued public statements concerning the matter and had also written to Sri Akal Takht Sahib requesting action. They have yet to see a clear decision or action publicly announced by Sri Akal Takht Sahib regarding the matter.
AKJ Link Revealed for Larrivar Saroops
Our sources have reported that, out of the 225 saroops, over 100 of them are printed in larrivar (ਲੜੀਵਾਰ) format and were shipped via the cargo ship based on a special request by members of Akhand Kirtani Jatha (AKJ). In the past, the late Ripudaman Malik colluded with the AKJ to transport saroops via container ships and even print saroops in defiance of HukamNamas from Sri Akal Takht. Only the SGPC and Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee have the authority to print and publish saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
It’s not surprising to see the modern AKJ working with Gurdwara Singh Sabha Surrey, which, like the modern AKJ, is known for its missionary leanings and anti-Sri Dasam Granth ideology and for flouting Panthic maryada and the sangat’s sentiments. This may also explain their silence regarding the various instances of beadbi that have occurred in Canada concerning the printing and transportation of saroops. Their continued silence on these matters is, in itself, a form of complicity.
Call for Remaining Saroops to Be Transferred
The Sikh organizations have also called for any remaining saroops to be transferred to Gurdwara Sahibs designated by the sangat, where they say proper care and observance of maryada can be ensured.
A further demand calls for the management committee, Granthi Singhs, and responsible sevadars to publicly apologize before the sangat.
The organizations state that an apology previously issued by the management and sevadars of Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha was insincere and did not adequately address the full circumstances of the matter.
Appeal to Sri Akal Takht Sahib
The three organizations are asking Sri Akal Takht Sahib to intervene directly and establish clear measures to ensure the proper care and respectful handling of all saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

ਕੰਟੇਨਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੋਡ ਕਰਕੇ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਮੰਗਵਾਇਆ, ਜਿਸ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਪੰਜ ਸਿੰਘ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਈ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਸਨ, ਨਾ ਹੀ ਪਾਵਨ ਸਰੂਪਾਂ
ਦੀ ਮਰਯਾਦਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ। ਮਹੀਨਿਆਂ ਤੱਕ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੰਟੇਨਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਰੱਖੇ ਜਾਣ ਕਾਰਨ
ਸੰਗਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋਏ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਿੱਖ ਕੌਮ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਘੋਰ ਲਾਪਰਵਾਹੀ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਸੂਬਾਈ ਸਿੱਖ ਸੰਸਥਾਵਾਂ—ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਕੋਲੰਬੀਆ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਕੌਂਸਲ, ਓਨਟਾਰੀਓ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਅਤੇ
ਕਿਊਬੈਕ ਸਿੱਖ ਕੌਂਸਲ—ਵੱਲੋਂ ਵੀ ਇਸ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਜਨਤਕ ਬਿਆਨ ਜਾਰੀ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਕਾਲ ਤਖ਼ਤ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਲਿਖਤੀ
ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਦੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਸੀ। ਪਰ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਅਜੇ ਤੱਕ ਇਸ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੋਈ ਸਪਸ਼ਟ ਫ਼ੈਸਲਾ ਜਾਂ
ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਈ।
ਹੁਣ ੨੦ ਸਤੰਬਰ ੨੦੨੬ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਹੋਰ ਵੀਡੀਓ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆਈ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਸੰਗਤ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਅਤੇ ਰੋਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਵਧਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਵੀਡੀਓ
ਵਿੱਚ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਪਾਵਨ ਸਰੂਪਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਕੰਮ ਵਾਲੀ ਵੈਨ ਦੇ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਹਿੱਸੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਨੀਵਾਂ ਗੱਦਾ ਵਿਛਾ ਕੇ, ਜਿੱਥੇ
ਜੁੱਤੀਆਂ, ਖਾਣ-ਪੀਣ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਸਤਾਂ, ਕੂੜਾ-ਕਰਕਟ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਮਾਨ ਵੀ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਸੀ, ਲਿਜਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ।ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ

ਰਹਿਤ ਮਰਯਾਦਾ ਦੀ ਸਪਸ਼ਟ ਉਲੰਘਣਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਕੌਮ ਦੀ ਭਾਵਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਚੋਟ ਪਹੁੰਚਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਕੌਂਸਲ—ਸਰੀ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਨਕ ਸੰਗਤ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਉਠਾਈਆਂ ਮੰਗਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਚਿੰਤਾਵਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਹਿਮਤ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਪੂਰਾ
ਸਮਰਥਨ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਪੂਰੇ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਦੀ ਨਿਰਪੱਖ ਜਾਂਚ ਕਰਕੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਪਾਰਦਰਸ਼ੀ ਢੰਗ

੧. ੨੨੫ ਪਾਵਨ ਸਰੂਪਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੂਰੀ, ਤਸਦੀਕਯੋਗ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਜਾਰੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਵੇ—ਕਿਹੜੇ ਸਰੂਪ ਕਿੱਥੇ ਭੇਜੇ ਗਏ, ਕਿੰਨੇ
ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਕੀ ਕਿੱਥੇ ਭੇਜੇ ਜਾਣੇ ਹਨ।
੨. ਬਾਕੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਵਨ ਸਰੂਪ ਸੰਗਤ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਨਿਰਧਾਰਤ ਸੰਗਤੀ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਾਹਿਬਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਸੌਂਪੇ ਜਾਣ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਪੂਰੀ ਮਰਯਾਦਾ ਅਤੇ
ਸਤਿਕਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਹੋ ਸਕੇ।

ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਭਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸੇਵਾਦਾਰਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਮੁਆਫ਼ੀਨਾਮਾ ਅਧੂਰਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਸਮੁੱਚੀ
ਸਥਿਤੀ ਦੀ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਪਰੋਕਤ ਤਿੰਨੋਂ ਨੁਕਤੇ ਅਜੇ ਵੀ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਣੇ ਬਾਕੀ ਹਨ।
ਅਸੀਂ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਕਾਲ ਤਖ਼ਤ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਅਪੀਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਤੁਰੰਤ ਦਖ਼ਲ ਦੇਣ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਯਕੀਨੀ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਕਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ
ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਸਰੂਪਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਚਿਤ ਸੇਵਾ-ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਵੇ, ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਸਥਾਨਕ ਪੱਧਰ ‘ਤੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਭਾਵਨਾਵਾਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ
ਭੜਕਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਚੀਆਂ ਰਹਿਣ—ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਸ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਕਾਲ ਤਖ਼ਤ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਮੂਲੀਅਤ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਅਜਿਹਾ
ਸੰਭਵ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਸਾਡੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਵਨ ਸਰੂਪਾਂ ਦੀ ਬੇਅਦਬੀ ਸਾਡੀ ਰੂਹ ਨੂੰ ਚੀਰ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਸਿੱਖ
ਕੌਮ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਲਾਪਰਵਾਹੀ ਬਰਦਾਸ਼ਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੀ। ਸਾਡੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਤੁਰੰਤ ਅਤੇ ਸਪਸ਼ਟ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ
ਕਰਕੇ ਸੰਗਤ ਦੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤ ਕਰੋ ਅਤੇ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਜਿਹੀਆਂ ਘਟਨਾਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕਣ ਲਈ ਸਖ਼ਤ ਨਿਰਦੇਸ਼ ਜਾਰੀ ਕਰੋ।
