PATNA SAHIB - (Jan 7, 2014) Sikh organizations worldwide have strongly condemned the hooliganism that occurred during the auspicious Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Sahib Ji at the Holy Takht Sri Harmandir Sahib at Patna Sahib. On Tuesday, two opposing groups ruined the Gurpurab celebrations when they violently clashed with each other with swords and sticks.
According to eye witnesses, supporters of the Patna Sahib Prabandhak Committee and Giani Iqbal Singh clashed after it was announced that an additional "Jathedar" was being installed at the Takht Sahib. Iqbal Singh and his son Prakash Singh were among those who were hurt in the attack. The clash was televised throughout India television stations.
Sikh organizations are demanding that strict action be taken against those who participated in the grave sacrilege at the Holy Takht Sahib precincts and marred the auspicious Gurpurab celebrations for thousands of devotees.
Takht Sri Patna Sahib is is one of the five Takhats or Seats of Authority for the Sikh Nation, and regarded as the sacred birthplace of Guru Gobind Singh Sahib Ji who spent the early year of his childhood in the town of Patna.
