NEW DELHI (KP) - Sikh political prisoner, Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara, was recently paraded in medieval era type leg restraint bars and leg cuffs to a Delhi court for his ongoing trial. The image of the chained Sikh activist was perhaps a humiliating reminder of the enslaved state of the Sikh Nation under the Indian hegemony which claims to be the world's largest 'democracy'.

Nevertheless, the shackled and restrained Babbar Khalsa activist appeared in high spirits while surrounded by a horde of tactical commandos when he appeared outside the Delhi court house.

The controversial iron leg restraints, popularly used on slaves and prisoners of the past are rarely used in modern times, and are banned in many European Union countries even for export.

Bhai Hawara recently underwent medical treatment related for spinal complications and injuries that he has endured from the years of harsh treatment and torture during his incarceration in Indian Prisons.

Throwback - members of the Gadhar Party shackled and chained in similar restraints by the British Imperial Government. This photograph was taken about 100 years ago - not much has changed for the Sikhs in India.
